Argentina, Buenos Aires 2009/2010 Manuela Berndt a 28 year old German dancer and choreographer living in Leeds travelled to Buenos Aires to undertake intensive research with creators of Casa Dorrego to study their innovative practice/ways of incorporating improvisational multimedia in live performance.
Argentina, Buenos Aires 2007/2008 Ruth Pethybridge a freelance dance artist teaching contemporary/creative dance for Oxford Youth Dance and working as Education Co-ordinator for Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company travelled to Buenos Aires to study the Argentine Tango and explore its potential for use in palliative care
Argentina, Buenos Aires 2013/2014 Brigid McCarthy a 47 year-old freelance dance practitioner and aerialist from Edinburgh, will travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to study with Cuerda Productions (a team of physical theatre practitioners), to develop new ideas and skills.
Argentina, Buenos Aires 2013/2014 Jennifer Paterson a 39 year-old freelance dance artist and aerialist from Edinburgh, will travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to study advanced aerial dance harness skills through training and research with Cuerda Productions. She will also observe some current work of other companies.
Bolivia, La Paz 2008/2009 Lucy Evans a 23 year-old dancer living in London travelled to La Paz in Bolivia to lead a community dance project for a disadvantaged youth group on behalf of ‘Creative Corners’
Brazil 2012/2013 Ithalia Forel a 33 year-old community youth dance coordinator from Liverpool, will travel to Brazil to attend a 10-day dance intensive to gain knowledge and information of Afro-Brazilian folkloric dance to share with the Liverpool community via carnival workshops. The scholarship is for £795.
Brazil – Sao Paolo 2010/2011 Colin Daimond a 31year old British Capoeira teacher from Wales travelled to Sao Paulo, Brazil to continue his development as a first-level teacher in the Afro-Brazilian form of Capoeira
Brazil, Florianopolis 2004/2005 Ana Royo Sanvisen a 30-year-old Spaniard based in London travelled to Brazil for a two-month aerial lab including research into choreography and development of technical skills for ‘harness-rope’ based movement, mixed with contemporary dance
Brazil, Fortaleza&Salvador Da Bahia 2007/2008 Nikki Kemp a Salsa dancer and teacher trained in Cuba, living in Nottingham, travelled to Fortaleza and Salvador Da Bahia, Brazil, to attend a four week intensive in Capoeira to explore ways of integrating this with her own Cuban Salsa dance.
Brazil, Rio de Janeiro 2015/2016 Thomasin Gulgec* a dancer from London, will travel to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil to attend the Abada-Capoeira Arts Festival and share and exchange artistic and cultural practice with Capoeiraistas from all over the world.
Brazil 2017/2018 Isabel Lloyd from Bristol is a Lecturer and teacher of Afro-Brazilian dance and Capoeira. She will travel to four destinations in Brazil for intensive training in Capeoira and Afro-Brazilian dance forms.
Brazil, Rio de Janeiro 2002/2003 Susan Johnston travelled to Rio de Janeiro to present a paper at the Encontro Laban Conference. Sue is an action-profiling practitioner.
Brazil, Rio de Janeiro 2002/2003 William Thorburn travelled to Rio de Janeiro to spend time with Brazilian Capoeira masters to validate his instructor status, and to enhance his dance performance skills and choreographic ideas. William is a dance soloist, and teacher with Union Dance Company. William presented his report to LUTSF in the form of a video he had made, supported by written account of his travels.
Brazil, Rio de Janeiro 2013/2014 Jessica Santer a 31 year-old dance and performance participation producer from London, will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to undertake professional development by visiting community and social arts projects working with the Lia Rodrigues Dance Company.
Brazil: Rio de Janeiro & Salvador 2004/2005 Michael Wheeler a 28-year-old, self employed dance, drama and music teacher and performer from Penzance, Cornwall, travelled to Brazil in order to spend one month in two schools to develop choreography for youth work, research exchange possibilities and improve personal skills

Brazil, Salvador da Bahia 2008/2009 Claudia da Silva a 30 year-old dancer, choreographer and teacher living in Bristol travelled to Salvador da Bahia in Brazil to undertake further training with Vania Oliviera at the Escole de Danca de Fundacao Cultural do Estado do Pelourinho
Brazil, Sao Paulo 2004/2005 Gabriele Reuter a 23-year-old German based in London travelled to Sao Paulo, Brazil in order to enhance her improvisational skills and to continue collaborative partnership with dancer/choreographer Marina Caron
Brazil, Sao Paulo 2013/2014 Nina Gebauer a 29 year-old movement-based puppeteer living in London, will travel to Sao Paulo, Brazil, to collaborate with the Familiarts Centre to exchange creative skills through exploration of Afro-Brazilian folk dances and Mamulengo, a form of puppetry.
Brazil, Santa Caterina 2012/2013 Louise Katerega a 42 year-old freelance performer, choreographer, teacher and community dance leader from Leicester, travelled to Brazil to be part of a UK delegation of disabled and non-disabled artists and young people to work with Ana Luiza Cisato who has expertise in social inclusion.
Chile, Santiago 2017/2018 Adam Russell a choreographer and dancer from Newcastle travelled to Santiago, Chile to take part in a six-week cultural exchange research project. This inter-generational dance/theatre project was a collaboration between local communities in Santiago and Newcastle and culminated in site specific performances in both cities.
Colombia, Bogota 2004/2005 Meghan Flanigan a 29-year-old American lecturing in London travelled to Bogota, Colombia for a Choreographic residency with Colombian dancers
Columbia – Bogota 2010/2011 Catherine Busk a 26 year old British dancer and workshop leader living in Reading, Berkshire, training as a dance movement therapist, travelled to Bogota, Columbia to take part in the third stage of War and Feast . The Project works for and with communities exposed to poverty and violence, using dance as a medium to facilitate social change
Columbia/Bogota 2007/2008 Eleanor O’Brien a dancer (amputee) who had performed and taught with Candoco Dance Company was then on sabbatical and a full-time mother living in Brighton. She was invited by the British Council in Columbia to travel to Bogota to co-lead a three week residency with Charlotte Darbyshire offering creative dance opportunities for dancers/landmine victims
Cuba 2003/2004 Stephen Williams 43 year-old teacher of ballet based in London travelled to Cuba to study the teaching of boys at the Cuban School of Ballet
Cuba, Guantanamo 2002/2003 Kathryn Brandt from Halifax, who was a senior community dance artist with Ludus Dance Company and then just embarking on a career as a freelance dance artist, travelled to Guantanamo in Cuba to attend a two-week course in authentic Cuban Dance, drumming, percussion and song with highly acclaimed native artists.
Cuba 2012/2013 Nicola Kemp a 40 year-old freelance teacher and performer from Nottingham, will travel to Cuba to undertake advanced training and research in Rumba and Afro-Cuban dance and its relation to music and contemporary Cuban salsa. The scholarship is for £720.
Guatemala, Antigua 2011/2012 Rosa Shreeves dancer and choreographer living in London travelled to Guatemala, Antigua, to deepen her knowledge of Mayan culture with a renowned spiritual leader, and to contribute through creative dance to the indigenous communities
Jamaica 2003/2004 Alan Miller 28 year-old dancer based in London travelled to Jamaica to do research and make contacts for performance and educational exchanges
Mexico, Guanajuato 2004/2005 Rachel Gomme a 43-year-old performer and choreographer based in London travelled to Guanajuato, Mexico, for a two-month residency with a Mexican dance artist as part of an international cross-cultural programme
Mexico, Hidalgo 2019/2020 Heike Salzer is a Senior Lecturer in Dance Professional Practice at Roehampton University. She will travel to Mexico to present the screen dance exhibition Latent Spaces, contribute to the International Congress of Performing Arts at the University of Saint Nicholas, Hidalgo and create screen dances with Mexican dance artists Ana Baer and Rocio Luna.
Mexico, Mexico City 2007/2008 Shelly Saint-Smith a lecturer at the Royal Academy of Dance living in London travelled to Mexico City to present a paper titled ‘Hanya Holm’s Jocose: preserving the work of the dance director’ at (ICKL) International Council of Kinetography Laban/Labanotation
Mexico, Mexico City 2019/2020 Sue Smith is an Independent Dance artist, a freelance creative facilitator and Executive Director of Dance in Devon. She has been invited by the British Council Mexico to both advise and share her knowledge, experience and work in the Arts for social change. She will collaborate in up-coming projects, work with creators and practitioners and contribute to research and planning in working with communities.
Peru, Lima 2003/2004 Barry Ganberg 46 year-old composer and dance accompanist based in Swindon travelled to Lima in Peru to research Peruvian music and its relationship to dance
Peru, Lima & 3 coastal regions 2006/2007 Flavia Le Messurier teacher of folkloric dance in London travelled to Lima and three coastal regions in Peru to continue and conclude a study of Peruvian ‘zapateo criollo’ (tap dance) in order to incorporate this into her own dance, teaching and a DVD
