Adrienne Hart, Artistic Director of Neon Dance, will travel to New York to meet with programmers and curators interested in presenting her latest work ‘Puzzle Creature’ inspired by the artist/architect duo Arakawa and Madeline Gins. She will research their archives at the Reversible Destiny Foundation order to bring back primary source material to inform future choreographic projects. The scholarship is for £394. Report
Alex McCabe from Glasgow is an independent choreographer, educator and inter-cultural project facilitator working with inclusive dance. He will attend Moscow’s Inclusive Dance Festival in order to resource his practice in the UK. The focus of the Festival will centre on international and inter-cultural perspectives on dance and access. The scholarship is for £254.
Emily Jenkins is a dance artist from London specialising in Community and Health. She will travel to San Francisco to study with Daria and Anna Halprin at the Esalen Institute. Her aim is the development and refinement of practice and methodology related to the successful ‘Move Dance Feel’ project which offers free dance and movement classes to women affected by cancer. The scholarship is for £763. Report
Fleur Darkin, former Artistic Director of Scottish Dance Theatre, is a freelance choreographer from Fife. She will travel to Pune India to study with Prashant Iyenger in order to deepen her knowledge of the role of breath in Iyengar yoga. She aims to build classes and workshops that centre on breathing as a tool to enhance dance practice, performance and assist participants who suffer from sub-optimum breathing. Heike Salzer is a Senior Lecturer in Dance Professional Practice at Roehampton University. She will travel to Mexico to present the screen dance exhibition Latent Spaces, contribute to the International Congress of Performing Arts at the University of Saint Nicholas, Hidalgo and create screen dances with Mexican dance artists Ana Baer and Rocio Luna. Jason Mabana is professional dancer, choreographer and teacher at the Rambert School and the Royal Ballet School. He has been chosen as an emerging choreographer to create and perform work alongside principal international dance companies at the Springboard Dance Festival in Montreal. Kamala Devam from London is Artistic Director, choreographer, dancer and teacher of the Kamala Devam Company. She will travel to Bengaluru India to embark on a month-long training course in the ancient South Indian martial art of kalaripayattu. Her aim is to integrate the movement vocabulary and dynamism of this ancient martial art into her choreography and teaching in the UK. The scholarship is for £642. Report
Katrina Carter is a freelance aerial coach, choreographer and researcher from Kent with considerable experience of working with Accessible Aerial dance. She will travel to Kingston Ontario to observe, assist and explore accessible movements and methodologies with bilateral amputee aerialist Erin Ball at her Amputee Circus Camp, In addition, she will work exclusively with Erin Ball on collaborative ideas, practice and research. Paul Michael Henry from Scotland is an independent artist, international performer and teacher of Butoh dance. He will travel from Glasgow to Berlin to take up an invitation to participate in a programme of intensive training, performance and networking at ‘eX..it! Festival, directed by renowned Butoh master Yumiko Yoshioka. The scholarship is for £267.
Romany Dear is a freelance teacher and choreographer for the inclusive dance organisation ‘Indepen-dance, and co-founder of Glasgow Open Dance School. She will travel to Oakland California to take part in Axis Dance Company’s Physically Integrated Summer Intensive course. Her aim is to continue to develop understanding, skills and training as an inclusive dance practitioner. The scholarship is for £796. Report
Rosie Heafford from Surrey has been selected by Assitej UK to represent Great Britain at the international exchange conference ‘Directors in TYA’ in Berlin. Assitej is a world-wide organisation dedicated to the artistic, cultural and educational rights of children and young people. As Artistic Director of ‘Second Hand Dance’ currently touring internationally, the invitation affords an opportunity to access a global network, take part in seminars, creative exploration, view performances and further her practice as a choreographer making work for young audiences. The scholarship is for £259.
Scarlett Perdereau from London is a freelance dance artist teaching at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and runs and facilitates the Forum on Embodied Practice. She will travel to Norway at the invitation of the Norwegian organisation SIB Lab to facilitate, take part and introduce the UK Forum on Embodied Practice to a wider community of dance practitioners in the Nordic countries. The scholarship is for £162.
Seetal Dhadyalla from Leicester is a freelance dance artist and project manager. She will travel to New Delhi for advanced training in the unique style of Jaipur gharana Kathak at the National School of Kathak Dance. Classes include music and cultural history. The scholarship is for £653. Report
Sue Smith is an Independent Dance artist, a freelance creative facilitator and Executive Director of Dance in Devon. She has been invited by the British Council Mexico to both advise and share her knowledge, experience and work in the Arts for social change. She will collaborate in up-coming projects, work with creators and practitioners and contribute to research and planning in working with communities. The scholarship is for £775. Report
Tina Omotosho is a dancer, choreographer and performer with Uchenna Dance Company. She will travel from Essex to Senegal to attend the Dance Afrique International Workshop at Ecole des Sables. He will travel to Perth and Wagga Wagga Australia to study the Suzuki Method of Actor Training with experts John Nobbs and Jacqui Carroll of Frank Theatre Brisbane.
