  • Have been living in the UK for at least 2 years
  • Be in undergraduate (or equivalent) dance training in the UK
  • Be applying as an individual (not a group or organisation)

Funding

What costs does the award cover?

We fund travel costs only, such as flights, trains, or other transport.

We encourage you to plan cost-effective travel where possible.

What costs are not covered?

We cannot fund:

  • Course or workshop fees
  • Accommodation or living costs
  • Insurance, visas, or vaccinations
  • Additional baggage or other travel extras

See also “What won’t be considered?” below.

If guidance changes, we may need to review or withdraw awards.

Do you offer additional support for disabled applicants?

Yes. If you identify as disabled and require support:

  • We can fund additional travel costs for an access support worker, where this is clearly evidenced

See Access Support Information for full details.

Your application

What do I need to include in my application?

You’ll need to submit:

  • A completed application form
  • A budget template for your full trip
  • Travel cost evidence (e.g. screenshots or quotes)
  • A reference from your training institution
  • Confirmation from your host (where relevant)

Your application must be complete when you submit it.

Can I send documents after the deadline?

No. We can only accept complete applications submitted by the deadline.

What is a “host confirmation” and what should it include?

This is evidence that your plans are realistic and agreed.

Depending on your project, this might include:

  • Confirmation that you have a place on a course or workshop
  • An email or letter from an organisation you’ll be working with
  • Evidence that organisations you plan to visit are willing to meet you

If you’re still waiting to hear back, you can include proof that you’ve applied.

What should my budget include?

Your budget should show:

  • The full cost of your trip (not just what you’re asking us for)
  • Any other funding or income you’ll use
  • Evidence for your travel costs

This helps us understand how well your project is planned.

Who should write my reference?

Your reference must come from someone at your current place of training.

It should:

  • Confirm how long they’ve known you
  • Be on headed paper or include an email header where possible

References cannot be from friends, family, or partners.

Strengthening your application

What makes a strong application?

Strong applications usually:

  • Show a clear idea and purpose
  • Explain how the project supports your training and future goals
  • Demonstrate planning and research
  • Communicate your motivation and enthusiasm

After applying

When will I hear back?

You’ll be notified of the outcome by 4 December 2026.

Can I change my plans after receiving the award?

The award is given based on the plans in your application.

If something changes, you must let us know as soon as possible.
Major changes may affect your award, but we will consider exceptions such as:

  • Illness
  • Changes from your host organisation
  • Adding further relevant development opportunities

What won’t be considered?

  • Travel linked to paid professional work
  • Projects undertaken on behalf of an organisation
  • Applications without clear planning, budget, or host agreement
